LO: to design and plan a Victorian Christmas gift

Osborne House has issued a challenge, to create a gift fit for a queen. Some of the gifts will be displayed at Osborne House. We set about finding out about Victorian Christmas traditions. The children were surprised to find out that all our Christmas traditions come from the Victorians. They also watched a a video showing a typical Victorian Christmas, noticing the differences and similarities between then and now. The children then chose some activities to plan and design: a scrapbook and gift bag.

LO: to be able to use perspective to create realistic interiors

Year 5 used perspective to create their own realist interior which they then decorated with colour, paintings and even a rug. They used perspective to draw out a room that led into another room.

Lesson 2: Wednesday 10th November 2021

LO: to explore how artists use perspective in their work

Year 5 continued with creating their names using horizon and construction lines. They realised how important the vanishing point is when using perspective. Some children also moved on to drawing a house using all three lines.

LO: to explore how artists use perspective in their work

Year 5 started a new topic: Illusions. They continued the looking at perspective. They started with writing their name in block letters, using the vanishing point, horizon lines and construction lines to continue with the 3D illusion of their name. This work will be completed next week.

Lesson 7: Wednesday 13th October 2021

LO: I can reflect on my completed landscape painting

Year 5 looked at their landscapes and reflected on them. They described what they liked about their work as well as reflecting on their plan, commenting on whether they followed it or did they make changes. They were also given the opportunity to look at their work and if they felt their worked required it, added some more to it. Well done Year 5 , you really have used perspective in your work really well and you’ve produced some fantastic work.

LO: I can paint my landscape design using techniques gathered from artists

Year 5 started painting their landscapes. I’m really pleased with how they’ve use their knowledge of perspective in their sketching and painting of them. Well done year 5.

Lesson 5: Wednesday 29th September 2021

LO: I can plan and draw my landscape design

Year 5 re-looked at all the landscape paintings they have come across so far. They then started to think about what type of landscape they’d like to paint, taking into consideration how artists use perspective, colours and styles of painting that they liked. They completed a grid to organise their ideas before drawing out their landscape on A3 paper.

Lesson 4:Wednesday 22nd September 2021

LO: I can use perspective to create a landscape design

Year 5 completed their landscape sketching form the previous week. They then did a guided landscape sketch to show them how to use perspective before they design their own landscape to paint.

Lesson 3: Perspective

Year 5 looked at how artists use perspective when painting. They found out how the size of an object, colour of the background and converging lines all create the illusion of being inside the painting. They then had a go at using a grid to recreate a piece of art which meant observing very carefully as each square was transposed.

Lesson 2: Cezanne and Turner research

Year 5 continued with finding out about landscapes by creating a short fact file about either William Turner or Paul Cezanne. They then looked at a timeline to see where these two artists work would fall.
